The Marvy Uchida punches are a new craft tool combining (dry) embossing and paper punching in one simple step. The embossing usually in the form of veins of flowers or leafs. The idea of one simple step is definitely attractive for crafters although they might want to specify or target one specific purpose only: for vellum paper embossing + punching only.

For this product review, I used 40# stock paper to punch out leaves and flowers. Turns out 40# is waaaay too thick for the Marvy-Uchida and I was left with a sore shoulder after punching out 2 pieces of card stock.

They still punch out, in fact, you might get away with the 40# card stock for the pansy flowers but I do not recommend using the leaf punch with the same “thick” paper. You will, however, need some elbow grease to punch out more than a few pieces.

Initially, I wanted to create a scrapbook full of leaves and perhaps punch out a whole bunch to sell as a bundle, but after about 10 mins, I knew it was not worth my red hands and sore shoulders.

When I first got the leaf punch, I thought I was the creative one and took vellum right away to punch and ink them green and yellow to make a card for my boo but I found online today from a video made several years ago that this product was probably made for vellum or very thin paper only. Cute vellum lanterns.
